ELI NELSON is an experienced litigator and data scientist who focuses his practice on electronic discovery and litigation strategy. He helps clients leverage advanced data analytics and technology to conduct more efficient and cost-effective discovery and fact development in complex litigation and regulatory enforcement matters. With a deep understanding of litigation objectives and challenges, Eli advises on matters in the areas of corporate law, antitrust, compliance, products liability and government investigations, among many other areas.
Prior to joining Sidley, Eli established the Disputes, Claims & Investigations Analytics practice at a consulting firm. In this role, he expanded the use of data analytics across existing practices and conducted complex data analyses in support of investigations and litigation as both a consulting and testifying expert. Eli has also practiced at large law firms in Washington, D.C. and New Orleans.
Eli’s representative work includes:
- Leading analyses of enterprise systems and structured data, including expert selection and supervision, for complex litigation and government investigations
- Managing legal and technological resources to assure defensible and efficient conduct of electronic discovery for complex litigations and government investigations, including Hart-Scott-Rodino second requests
- Advising on best practice use of advanced analytics practices, including Technology Assisted Review (TAR) and data sampling strategies. In addition to discovery, other applications have included data inventory for risk mitigation, defensible deletion of old records, and transfer of legally sensitive books and records incident to divestitures
- Negotiating and advising on discovery protocols with opposing counsel and among joint defense group members
