ANGELO SUOZZI is a senior managing associate in the Litigation group in the firm’s Chicago office who represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial litigation matters. His practice includes several areas of commercial litigation and regulatory compliance, and he has represented clients in the telecommunications, pharmaceutical and energy industries in both state and federal courts and in arbitrations.
Angelo has a wide range of litigation experience, including trial, arbitration hearings, preparing fact and expert witnesses for deposition and trial, managing large-scale electronic discovery and drafting dispositive motions, appellate briefing and other briefs. Angelo also has extensive experience with premerger notification, review and analysis under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Antitrust Improvements Act, and has assisted clients with the HSR Second Request process.
Representative engagements include:
- Member of a small trial team that successfully obtained a $45.5 million judgment on behalf of an oil pipeline operator after a two-week jury trial.
- As lead attorney, obtained a summary judgment award of over $2 million on behalf of a telecommunications company in an arbitration proceeding that involved claims for breach of contract and conversion.
- Member of a trial team that won a $98 million judgment for a pharmaceutical company by applying antitrust principles to a patent damages case against the fourth generic entrant to the market. The case was substantially affirmed on appeal by the Federal Circuit.
- Defended a steel manufacturer in a price-fixing case brought against all major U.S. steelmakers alleging a collusive restriction of output, resulting in a settlement for an amount that was substantially less than the average settlement in the case.
- Counsel for a major pharmaceutical company in an antitrust class action litigation involving allegations of filing a citizen petition with FDA to delay generic entry.
- Represented multiple companies in responding to third-party discovery requests in subpoenas and Civil Investigative Demands, and assisted clients with narrowing the scope and burden of such requests.
Angelo is active in the firm’s pro bono efforts, including representing military veterans on a pro bono basis in connection with claims for compensation for disabilities incurred during military service.
Angelo is a 2007 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and is a 2010 graduate of Duke University School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Alaska Law Review.
