KATIE VON DER WEID is a U.S.-trained and New York-qualified international attorney whose practice has been based in Europe for nearly 15 years.
A versatile advocate, Katie advises international clients across multiple industries, providing sound problem-solving, counseling, and advocacy skills to investigate, manage, and resolve complex business and legal disputes for a diverse group of clients. She collaborates closely with company management and in-house counsel to understand her client’s business goals and provide an aligned and cost-effective legal strategy.
Katie has represented clients in all phases of complex, multi-jurisdictional disputes before major arbitral institutions, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), as well as litigation in U.S. federal courts. These include international disputes involving contracts related to supply chain (e.g., distribution agreements), protection of intellectual property (IP) (e.g., licensing agreements), and M&A transactions (e.g., share and asset purchase agreements). Katie has also successfully used Section 1782 of the U.S. Code to obtain discovery in U.S. courts for use in foreign proceedings.
In addition Katie has advised corporations, individuals, and other entities (e.g., company boards and audit committees) in connection with anti-corruption (FCPA) and other governmental investigations, and related internal investigations worldwide. Her experience includes investigations in the banking, oil and gas, and life sciences sectors.
Prior to joining Sidley in Geneva, Katie practiced for many years in the New York and Paris offices of another international law firm, focused primarily in the areas of securities litigation and investigations (including FCPA). Before entering private practice, she interned in Washington, D.C. with the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and served as a law clerk for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights.
Katie is fluent in both English and French.
