A steadfast dedication to growth and development in the Asia-Pacific market has earned Sidley’s Asia Investment Funds team AsianInvestor magazine’s 2013 “marquee” award for “Legal Services Provider of the Year.” The award was announced officially at the publication’s Gala Dinner held November 21, 2013.
The award, in its second year, is part of AsianInvestor’s annual Service Provider Awards, which recognize a variety of organizations for their excellence in supporting asset management companies and institutional investors in Asia Pacific. The awards are determined by the editors through written pitches and face-to-face interviews with legal and accounting firms, custodians, prime brokers, technology companies and investment funds.
In addition to receiving this year’s award, this is the sixth consecutive year in which our Asia Investment Funds team has earned recognition from AsianInvestor for being a market leader in the investment funds sector. Our team in Asia Pacific is at the forefront of development of new policy and legislative reform relating to financial services.
“As our clients grow in new and more demanding directions in Asia, Sidley is very well positioned to help our clients achieve their goals,” said Effie Vasilopoulos, member of Sidley’s Executive Committee and co-head of the Investment Funds team in Asia. “Asia’s differences from other markets represent both a challenge and an opportunity. We are committed to bringing our long experience in the Asia region to bear to help our clients successfully translate both the existing and new markets they are exploring.”
A commitment to talent
As described in the December edition of AsianInvestor, Sidley is “hands down, the leader in terms of legal service providers in Hong Kong.” That newsletter also acknowledged our new investment funds team in Sidley’s Singapore office. Granted a license in February 2013 to practice local law in Singapore under the Qualifying Foreign Law Practice program, the team works on the region’s largest hedge fund launches, infrastructure-focused vehicles, and private equity and real estate funds.
“Being able to advise on Singapore law has been an exciting new phase of our development in Asia Pacific,” said Han Ming Ho, co-head of the Investment Funds practice in Asia, adding, “It will greatly benefit the firm’s clients who are expanding their business operations in Asia, especially for our clients who have or intend to establish their regional hubs in Singapore.”
Our lawyers in the Asia-Pacific region regularly join together with Sidley lawyers across the globe to develop complex investment products and provide clients with a unified and highly integrated approach to solving international legal problems in the investment funds arena. Through this approach, we have earned a reputation among our clients and industry publications as a leading law firm in the region.
AsianInvestor is one of the most trusted publications in the region’s asset management industry. Published several times a year, it covers such topics as investment trends and regulation across the region, fund launches, industry news and people moves.
