Global Finance Partner David Cohen Joins Sidley’s Office in New York
November 5, 2026
New York – Sidley is pleased to announce that David Cohen has joined the firm’s office in New York as a partner in the Global Finance practice. He was previously Managing Director, Head of Secured Capital Markets at global investment firm ATLAS SP, and has over 18 years of experience in structuring and advising on finance transactions at leading investment firms and in private practice.
Mr. Cohen advises alternative asset managers, sponsors, financing sources, and investors on complex structured finance, asset-backed finance, and private credit transactions as well as complex capital structure solutions. His experience spans a broad range of esoteric commercial and consumer assets, and includes bilateral and syndicated bank financings, term and revolving securitizations, Rule 144A and 4(a)(2) formats, structured repo and warehouse facilities, CLO-style funding vehicles, NAV loans, participations, syndicated term loans, and corporate investment-grade unsecured bonds and credit facilities. At Sidley, Mr. Cohen will focus on large, complex financing transactions across asset classes, including structured and asset-backed finance, private credit, and hybrid financings, while supporting clients across the firm’s broader private capital platform.
“Dave brings an exceptional combination of sophisticated legal experience and firsthand commercial perspective from managing the liability side of a large alternative asset management platform,” said Perry Shwachman, global co-leader of Sidley’s M&A and Private Equity group and a member of the firm’s Management Committee and Executive Committee. “He has deep relationships across the market and understands the financing, capital, ratings, accounting, tax and regulatory considerations that drive complex transactions for these clients. His experience with large-scale funding solutions, including private credit and hybrid financings, will make him an important addition as we continue to expand our work across the private capital market.”
“Dave has worked across a very broad range of structured and asset-backed finance transactions, including various sophisticated funding structures,” said Nancy Chung, managing partner of Sidley’s office in New York and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. “His experience spans numerous asset classes, giving him the versatility to advise clients on complex transactions without being limited to a single sector or product. He will further strengthen our Global Finance capabilities in New York and create additional opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the firm’s transactional practices.”
Mr. Cohen’s arrival follows the addition of more than 40 Global Finance partners through lateral hires and internal promotions in the last three years, including Robert Hagan, Rebecca O’Brien, and Katarina Molnarova in Washington, D.C.; Patrick Calves, Brian Foster, Lee Askenazi, Alistair Dunlop, Sumita Ahuja, Jeffrey Ross, Leah Edelboim, Ji Hye You, Marissa Gluck, and Christopher Jackson in New York; Evan Palenschat in Chicago; Jeremy Trinder, Tania Bedi, Sam Hamilton, Joseph Kimberling, Fergus O’Domhnaill, Jayanthi Sadanandan, Ben Thompson, and Ben Wright in London; Parker Zangoei in San Diego; and Ike Chidi and Peter Burke in Century City.
