Sidley Matter Named an “Impact Case of the Year” at the Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific 2026 Awards

Benchmark Litigation has named Kaisa Group Holdings’ US$12.3 billion restructuring one of its “Impact Cases of the Year” at the Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific 2026 Awards.

Sidley acted as the international legal adviser to Kaisa Group Holdings Ltd. (HKEX: 1638, Kaisa), a leading Chinese real estate developer, in its restructuring of approximately US$12.3 billion in offshore debt. The landmark restructuring was achieved through an innovative and highly complex dual scheme structure for both Kaisa and Rui Jing Investment Company Ltd. (Rui Jing), Kaisa’s subsidiary, across three jurisdictions. This includes the Kaisa Hong Kong Scheme, the Kaisa Cayman Scheme, the Rui Jing Hong Kong Scheme, and the Rui Jing BVI Scheme, which were all sanctioned as of April 7, 2025. The Kaisa Hong Kong Scheme and the Rui Jing Hong Kong Scheme were also successfully recognized as foreign main proceedings under Chapter 15 of the US Bankruptcy Code on May 14, 2026.
