Sidley Obtains Federal Circuit Victory on Behalf of Peddinghaus Corporation
August 21, 2023
On August 21, 2023, Sidley obtained a complete victory from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in favor of client Peddinghaus Corporation. In October 2019, competitor Ficep Corporation filed suit in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware against Peddinghaus alleging infringement of a patent regarding automation of manufacturing processes. On February 28, 2022, the Court granted Peddinghaus’s motion for summary judgment on the grounds that Ficep’s patent was directed to a patent-ineligible abstract idea. Ficep appealed the invalidity determination to the Federal Circuit, and the Court affirmed Peddinghaus’s victory across the board. The Sidley team included Nathaniel Love, Stephanie Koh, Leif Peterson, and Chris Shoup (all in Chicago).
