SHIRIN MAHKAMOVA focuses her practice on appellate litigation, as well as critical motions and complex commercial disputes. She represents clients in all stages of litigation and at every level of federal and state courts.
Prior to joining Sidley, Shirin served as a law clerk to the Honorable Candace Jackson-Akiwumi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She also completed two trial-level federal clerkships, in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, with Honorable Pamela K. Chen and Honorable Lisa G. Beckerman. Shirin was an associate in the New York office of an international law firm before clerking.
Shirin earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School, where she served as an articles editor of the Michigan Law Review and the Pro Bono Co-Chair of the Michigan Law Outlaws. While in law school, she represented clients in the Criminal Appellate practice and the Human Trafficking clinic, and worked with the ACLU of Michigan.
Shirin is fluent in Uzbek and Russian.
