Thomas R. Califano Named to Turnarounds & Workouts’ Outstanding Restructuring Lawyers 2025 List
January 6, 2026
Turnarounds & Workouts has named Tom Califano, a partner in Sidley’s New York office, to its “Outstanding Restructuring Lawyers 2025” list. The annual recognition identifies restructuring lawyers based on notable work over the prior year.
The publication highlighted Tom’s role guiding Prospect Medical Holdings and its subsidiaries through a Chapter 11 case involving approximately US$2.3 billion in funded debt. It also cited his work as debtor counsel in CareMax’s prearranged Chapter 11 restructuring and Eiger BioPharmaceuticals’ Chapter 11 case, where the Sidley team achieved “rare complete recoveries while overruling U.S. Trustee objections.”
Tom represents large public and private companies in distress, both in and out of court, as well as buyers of distressed assets and significant creditor groups in restructuring matters. His practice focuses on company- and buy-side representations across industries and is considered a leader in healthcare and life sciences restructurings.
