Matthew Thompson and Rollin Ransom Named to The Hollywood Reporter’s 2026 “Power Music Lawyers” List
The Hollywood Reporter has named Matthew Thompson and Rollin Ransom to its 2026 “Power Music Lawyers” list, recognizing attorneys behind significant transactions, disputes, and other developments shaping the music industry. The publication evaluated honorees based on the size of transactions, profile of clientele, and peer input.
Matt, a partner in Sidley’s Century City office, is co-leader of the firm’s Entertainment, Sports, and Media group. He represents entertainment companies and capital providers in complex M&A and financing transactions, general corporate matters, and music industry-focused commercial transactions. The Hollywood Reporter highlighted his role in advising Warner Music Group on its joint venture with Bain Capital, which provides up to US$1.2 billion to acquire music catalogs.
Rollin, managing partner of Sidley’s Los Angeles office, is co-leader of the firm’s Entertainment, Sports and Media group and its global Commercial Litigation and Disputes practice. He represents individuals and companies in complex disputes, including intellectual property matters. The Hollywood Reporter highlighted his representation of Universal Music Group in a high-profile defamation lawsuit brought by rapper and singer Drake. The case was dismissed by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and is currently on appeal.
