
Biography
LORA CHOWDHURY represents companies and individuals in complex disputes and arbitrations, including class and collective actions and multi-jurisdictional disputes. Lora has experience in state and federal courts throughout the United States and in international arbitrations and mediations.
Lora’s practice spans all aspects of pleadings, discovery, trial, and appeal. She litigates all manner of high-risk business disputes, including those involving complex commercial contracts, ERISA, the Texas Insurance Code, and the Federal Communications Act. Selected industries in which Lora has provided advice include telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, and healthcare.
Lora also has experience working on numerous internal and government investigations, including with regard to compliance with federal statutes and regulatory rules.
Before joining Sidley, Lora clerked for the Honorable David Hittner of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Lora received her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, her LL.M. in human rights law from The London School of Economics and Political Science, and her B.A. in economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Experience
Representative Matters
- Successfully represented a major telecommunications company in a putative class action lawsuit concerning a variety of privacy and consumer protection-related laws, including the federal Communications Act.
- Representing a major telecommunications company in a significant false advertising class action on behalf of millions of California customers alleging that our client improperly adds an “administrative fee” to wireless service plans.
- Successfully represented a manufacturer of pipe and precast products in a consolidated shareholder derivative suit.
- Representing an energy company in a high-stakes and confidential natural gas arbitration.
- Representing a health insurer in multiple actions in Texas district courts involving claims under ERISA and the Texas Insurance Code.
- Represented Rockies Express Pipeline in an action brought by the company against Ultra Resources regarding a pipeline transportation services agreement.
- Represented Partners Group in connection with its investment in the under-development Seabras-1 fiber optic telecommunications cable between the United States and Brazil.
