Sidley is pleased to share that nine regulatory lawyers and policy advisors have recently joined our Global Life Sciences practice. Jim Johnson, Scott Kaplan, and Chris Fanelli have joined the firm as partners in the Food, Drug, and Medical Device Compliance and Enforcement team. Associates Mia Harris and Jenny Becker have also joined the practice, as have Dan Roberts, Stephanie Slater, and Alex Smith as senior directors of regulatory compliance. Additionally, Eva Von Mühlenen joined Sidley’s European Life Sciences practice as an advisor.
Jim, Scott, and Chris bring extensive experience with the FDA, having each served in senior roles at the FDA’s Office of Chief Counsel prior to entering private practice. In private practice, they have advised both strategic enterprises and private equity investors. Dan and Stephanie are both former FDA investigators, with broad experience conducting FDA inspections around the world; both also worked in the industry prior to joining the FDA. Alex brings over 20 years of experience in regulatory affairs, quality systems, and engineering program management in FDA- and EU-regulated companies. Eva brings a wealth of digital health and artificial intelligence experience, having previously served at Swissmedic as Deputy Head of the Legal Advice Department and as Legal Advisor to the agency’s Digital Transformation Initiative.
These additions expand Sidley’s deep bench of lawyers and advisors who have held senior positions at the FDA and other U.S. and international regulatory agencies and further enhance its ability to serve life sciences clients in every stage of the product lifecycle. Including Jim, Scott, and Chris, Sidley has added more than 30 life sciences-focused lateral partners to its 200-person group since 2019. This strategic growth has enabled the firm to offer a comprehensive range of services to its life sciences clients and investors – from licensing and collaboration, M&A, and capital markets transactions; to government enforcement, IP, and product liability litigation; to counseling on FDA and healthcare regulatory and privacy compliance and government strategies.
