Biography

AMENEH BORDI focuses her practice on overseeing the execution of complex, high-pressure restructurings. Ameneh advises clients in all aspects of Chapter 11 reorganizations and out-of-court restructurings. Her experience includes top-tier complex Chapter 11 cases for both company and creditor-side representations.

Ameneh was recognized among the 2026 Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America® list for Litigation–Bankruptcy.

Prior to joining Sidley, Ameneh was a restructuring associate at another major global law firm where she oversaw multiple significant restructurings on both the company and creditor side. She also served as in-house counsel to a major technology company, supporting the global expansion and public policy team of its cloud business.

While attending New York University School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, Ameneh served as the staff editor for the Annual Survey of American Law.

Ameneh has conversational fluency in French, Italian, and Farsi.

Experience

Representative Matters

  • Represented Plenty and certain affiliates in its Chapter 11 cases filed on March 23, 2025, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. Plenty, an innovative agricultural technology company with a unique indoor vertical farming platform, filed a prearranged Chapter 11 plan to restructure its liabilities, streamline operations, and focus its go-forward operations.
  • Represented Ebix, Inc., a global software and technology company, and certain of its affiliates in their Chapter 11 cases in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas to address approximately US$700 million in funded debt obligations through a successful asset sale and sponsored plan of reorganization.
  • Currently representing various US asset managers in risk exposure mitigation strategies.
  • Represented Macquarie Bank in Lincoln Power L.L.C. bankruptcy, with respect to a significant claim liability.
  • Represented major international auto manufacturer in connection with out-of-court wind-down process.
  • Represented major international bank in connection with complex asset return dispute.
  • Represented minority group of senior secured noteholders in out-of-court consent solicitation.
  • Represented a group of noteholders in the pre-packaged debt-for-equity swap of Rockley Photonics in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
  • Represented Intelsat S.A. and certain of its affiliates in connection with their Chapter 11 cases in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
  • Represented Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc. and its affiliates in their Chapter 11 restructuring in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
  • Represented Acosta, Inc. in its prepackaged restructuring of US$3 billion of indebtedness.
  • Represented EXCO Resources, Inc. in its Chapter 11 restructuring in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
  • Represented Avaya Inc. and certain of its affiliates in their Chapter 11 cases.
  • Represented an ad hoc group of lenders, including the petitioning creditors, in the involuntary Chapter 11 case of a base metals mining corporation, filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Represented subordinated noteholders in restructuring proceedings in the Cayman Islands and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
  • Represented an ad hoc committee of senior secured lenders in connection with a prearranged restructuring through concurrent French sauvegarde, Chapter 15, and Chapter 11 proceedings of over US$2 billion in funded debt obligations, including three tranches of secured loans across its capital structure.

Some of the above matters were handled prior to joining Sidley.

Pro Bono

Ameneh maintains an active pro bono practice. She successfully represented an immigrant victim of domestic violence in seeking permanent resident status in the United States from the initial application process for deferred action status, through the interview stage, yearly applications for work-permit renewals, and approval of permanent resident status. In addition, she was one of the volunteer attorneys organizing legal services at JFK Airport immediately following President Trump’s initial travel ban in 2017. She has also served as a volunteer lawyer in housing court and SDNY district court, has assisted low-income residents of New York in preparing bankruptcy petitions and in divorce proceedings, and has provided legal assistance to a non-profit corporation seeking to wind up its affairs.
