Biography

JOAN JACOBSON represents and advises corporate and individual clients in a variety of litigation and arbitration matters, including high-stakes contract disputes and securities actions.

Joan is experienced in all stages of litigation for both civil and criminal matters. She has substantial experience briefing a variety of motions in federal and state court, and she has played key roles in preparing and examining expert witnesses. She also has extensive experience in fact development and discovery, including drafting and responding to written discovery, preparing fact witnesses for depositions, taking depositions, resolving complex discovery disputes, and day-to-day case management.

Joan graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2018, where she served as executive editor of the Journal of Law Reform and received honors in the Legal Practice program. She earned her B.S. (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from Michigan State University. As an undergraduate, she received the Department of History’s “Outstanding Senior Award” and was a member of the Varsity women’s rowing team, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors.

Prior to law school, Joan taught in Detroit for three years as a Teach For America corps member. She also completed a Public Interest Law Initiative post-graduate fellowship with the ACLU of Illinois before joining the firm.

Joan maintains an active pro bono practice and received the firm’s “Thomas H. Morsch Award for Pro Bono Achievement” in 2021.
