Biography

ALYSSA LEVY is a member of Sidley’s Entertainment, Sports and Media industry group. She represents clients on a wide range of transactional matters including M&A, finance, and development with a focus on sports transactions. Her practice includes the representation of individuals, groups, and private equity firms in buying, selling, and investing in sports franchises. She also has experience advising clients, including individuals, leagues, teams, financial instructions, and local and state governments, in sports-anchored public-private partnerships for professional stadiums and related ancillary development.

Outside of the firm, Alyssa is a teacher’s assistant at the University of Miami School of Law for two courses: Investing in Sports and Purchase and Sale of a Minor League Baseball Team.

Alyssa graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the University of Miami School of Law with a J.D. and LL.M in Sports and Entertainment Law. During law school, she served as vice president of the Entertainment and Sports Law Society and was co-chair of the Global Entertainment & Sports Law + Industry Conference committee. Alyssa also served as a teacher’s assistant for many of her entertainment and sports law classes.

During her final year in law school, Alyssa was a legal extern for the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium. She also worked as a legal student associate at Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. for the sponsorships and partnerships department. Prior to law school, Alyssa worked as a case assistant at a major law firm in New York City.


Experience

Representative Matters

Alyssa’s recent matters include:

  • A minority investor in connection with an investment of 5% in the New England Patriots NFL franchise, with a valuation of over US$9 billion. The historic sale represents the first time Patriots owner Robert Kraft has sold any part of the team since he acquired it for US$172 million in 1994, and it took place alongside a simultaneous 3% sale to private equity firm Sixth Street.
  • World Sevens Football (W7F) in connection with: (i) its creation and launch of a new global 7-on-7 women’s soccer competition series; and (ii) its inaugural North American tournament, which is scheduled to take place December 5–7, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
  • The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) in connection with its multi-year media rights deals with CBS Television Network and The CW Network.
  • Mercury/13 in its partnership with Avenue Sports Fund, a leading global sports investment fund of Avenue Capital Group.
  • Heath Freeman, a media, sports, real estate, and hospitality executive, in the acquisition of the second-ever location-based BIG3 franchise in Miami 
  • Monumental Sports & Entertainment in all facets of the negotiations with multiple jurisdictions for a new or renovated arena and sports anchored development project.
  • Co-lead investor Gabe Plotkin in the consortium purchasing the controlling stake of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets from Michael Jordan. The transaction is valued at approximately US$3 billion.
  • The Clippers G League team on a license deal with the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California, to serve as its home venue and practice facility.
  • The City of Jacksonville in connection with Jacksonville Jaguars stadium negotiations as well as related ancillary development around the stadium.
  • A diverse group led by Laura Ricketts and other prominent Chicago women business and civic leaders in its acquisition of the Chicago Red Stars NWSL franchise, valued at US$60 million. 
  • The Professional Fighters League (PFL) in the acquisition of Bellator from Paramount Global.
  • A financial institution in connection with an amended and restated credit facility to finance a Formula 1 race and related course improvements; the transaction also required negotiating complex use and non-disturbance arrangements with respect to the course and surrounding premises.
  • Tampa Sports Authority in stadium development negotiations.
  • FuboTV, the leading sports-first live TV streaming platform, in its investment in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships, Inc.
  • RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. in its US$2.985 billion acquisition of American International Group, Inc.’s treaty reinsurance business.
