ROBERT SANTAMARINA has experience in many areas of litigation, including complex commercial litigation and disputes, white collar defense, product liability, and consumer class actions.
Robert works with clients at all stages of litigation. He has a particular focus on trial work, and has been involved in several high profile trials. He has assisted during trial or participated in the preparation up until the start of more than a half dozen trials in federal and state courts across the country.
Robert has experience in all facets of litigation, including preparing for direct and cross examinations and opening statements and closing arguments at trial, preparing and responding to written discovery requests; preparing for and assisting at depositions; drafting appellate briefs, dispositive motions, motions to compel, and motions in limine; and developing and executing case strategy.
Before joining Sidley, Robert spent several years competing in mock trial during college and law school, and served as a captain and executive board member of the Harvard Law School Mock Trial Association. During law school, Robert also served as an extern for Judge Robert E. Bacharach of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and worked as an intern at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
Following law school and prior to joining Sidley, Robert was a Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Fellow at the Federal Defender Program for the Northern District of Illinois, where he assisted at a month-long trial resulting in the full acquittal of his client by the jury.
Robert received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, and graduated with highest distinction from the University of Kansas with a B.A. in political science.
