Biography

DYLAN SHERWYN focuses his practice on representing public and private companies and investors in connection with mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, co-investments, joint ventures, and other general corporate matters, with a focus on sports, entertainment, and media. His practice includes the representation of individuals, groups, and private equity firms on investments in, and acquisitions of, major professional sports teams and expansion teams.

Prior to joining Sidley, Dylan was an associate for an international law firm in their Mergers & Acquisitions group. He has extensive experience representing public and private companies with domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

While attending Fordham University School of Law, Dylan served as editor-in-chief of the Fordham Sports Law Forum, the Chair of the Fordham Sports Law Symposium, and as a staff member of the Fordham IP, Media & Entertainment Law Journal. During his time at Fordham, Dylan was also a Paralegal for BSE Global (parent company of the Brooklyn Nets, Barclays Center, Nassau Coliseum, New York Liberty, Long Island Nets, and NetsGC). 

After earning his undergraduate degree in sport management from the University of Michigan, Dylan served as the senior coordinator of Business Affairs for Palace Sports & Entertainment (parent company of the Detroit Pistons and Palace of Auburn Hills), after which he entered law school.

Representative Matters

  • Emirates Team New Zealand in connection with the formation and historic agreement to launch the America’s Cup Partnership, an innovative new venture that will operate the 38th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup and future editions of the event (pending).
  • World Sevens Football in connection with the creation and launch of new global 7-on-7 women’s soccer competition series.
  • An investor in the consortium led by Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore that acquired a controlling interest in the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA’s Lynx.
  • The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) in connection with its multi-year media rights deals with CBS Television Network and The CW Network.
  • Mercury/13 in its partnership with Avenue Sports Fund, a leading global sports investment fund of Avenue Capital Group.
  • Eldridge Industries, a leading investment firm and partner in Fulwell 73, in its merger with The SpringHill Company.
  • Heath Freeman, a media, sports, real estate, and hospitality executive, in the acquisition of the second-ever location-based BIG3 franchise with plans to base the team in Miami.
  • The Professional Fighters League (PFL) in the acquisition of Bellator from Paramount Global.
  • Mercury/13 in its launch of a US$100 million fund to acquire controlling stakes in women’s professional sports teams in Europe and Latin America.
  • Represented Eric Church as a member of the investment consortium in the controlling stake acquisition of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets from Michael Jordan.
  • Advised the Clippers G League team on a license deal with the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California, to serve as its home venue and practice facility.
  • Chess.com in a multiyear partnership agreement with the Esports World Cup Foundation, the organizer of the 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC), an affiliate of the Saudia Arabia Public Investment Fund.
  • Represented owners of the Premier Hockey Federation, the top international women’s professional hockey league, in the launch of a new North American women’s professional hockey league.
  • Represented fuboTV, the leading sports-first live TV streaming platform, in its investment in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships, Inc.
  • Represented Foley Trasimene Acquisition Corp. II in its US$9 billion merger with Paysafe Group Holdings Limited.
  • Represented Austerlitz Acquisition Corp. I in its US$3.2 billion merger with Wynn Interactive Limited.
  • Represented Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board in its US$820 million acquisition of Vantage Elevator Solutions.
  • Represented QuickChek Corporation in its sale to Murphy USA for US$645 million.

Some of the above matters were handled prior to joining Sidley.
