Sidley’s Capital Litigation Project ensures that inmates incarcerated on Alabama’s death row have access to high-quality legal representation, perhaps for the first time since their arrest. We have represented 24 prisoners to date, traveling to Alabama to visit our clients, interview witnesses and participate in hearings. Since the Project’s inception, more than 235 Sidley partners, counsel, and associates, along with legal assistants and project assistants, have volunteered more than 169,000 hours to these cases.
Sidley’s representation of inmates on Alabama’s death row has been greatly supported by the Equal Justice Initiative, a nonprofit based in Montgomery, Alabama, that provides ongoing guidance to Sidley’s lawyers on Alabama postconviction practice and procedure.
