
Biography
AVERY GERDES focuses his practice on commercial litigation and disputes.
Prior to joining Sidley, Avery served as a law clerk for Justice Linda Bell of the Supreme Court of Nevada.
Avery earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School. While in law school, he clerked for the Federal Public Defender Office of Nevada’s Capital Habeas Unit, and for The Honorable Gloria Tan of the Massachusetts Juvenile Court for Middlesex County. Avery served as the programming director for Harvard Law School’s Advocates for Human Rights organization, and as a project leader for the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity team.
Prior to law school, Avery received his B.A. in philosophy, summa cum laude, from St. Olaf College.
Community Involvement
Pro Bono
Avery is involved with Sidley’s Capital Litigation Project, which ensures that people incarcerated on Alabama’s death row have access to high-quality legal representation.
