On October 6, 2026, Sidley lawyers Adam Raviv and Sydney Volanski spoke at the Doon Insights Robotics workshop, alongside technologists, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and domain experts to discuss the future of robotics — the technology, the business, the investing landscape, industrial policy, and geopolitics.

Adam and Sydney joined the panel “Economics, Geopolitics and Robotics Strategy,” where they discussed the FCC’s recent decision to add advanced robotic devices produced outside the United States to its Covered List. The action generally prevents new models of covered devices from receiving the FCC equipment authorization needed to import, market, or sell them in the U.S. Previously authorized models may continue to be sold and used, and manufacturers may seek a Conditional Approval, which requires corporate, investor, supply chain, and manufacturing information.

For robotics manufacturers, importers, distributors, and investors, the action raises immediate questions about product launch timing, manufacturing and supply chain footprint, and market access. Adam said, “The FCC’s action is a front-line strategic issue for robotics companies, and those that start now on supply chain mapping and Conditional Approval planning will be best positioned to protect their product launch timelines and U.S. market access. We appreciated the chance to share our thoughts with all the innovators at the Doon Insights workshop.
