Sidley Continues to Expand M&A and Private Equity Group With Partner Timothy FitzSimons in Chicago

February 3, 2026
Chicago – Sidley is pleased to announce that Timothy FitzSimons has joined the firm’s M&A and Private Equity group in Sidley’s office in Chicago. Mr. FitzSimons joins from King & Spalding, where he was a partner in the firm’s Corporate practice.

Mr. FitzSimons has more than two decades of experience representing clients on public and private merger and acquisition transactions totaling more than US$200 billion. In addition to representing public clients in corporate governance, shareholder activism and proxy fight matters, he represents public and private companies on complex M&A transactions. Mr. FitzSimons’ broad transactional experience includes tender offers, carve-outs, cross-border transactions, stock-for-stock mergers, and deSPAC transactions. He also has deep experience advising special committees and independent directors on conflict-of-interest transactions, including take-private transactions. He also regularly counsels public companies and their boards on governance matters.

“Tim is a highly respected M&A and PE lawyer with a proven track record advising clients on complex and high-stakes transactions,” said Brian Fahrney, Chair of Sidley’s Executive Committee. “His deep technical experience and strong public company background make him an outstanding addition for our clients and an immediate asset to our global M&A and Private Equity team.”

“Tim brings exactly the kind of sophisticated deal and boardroom experience our clients expect from Sidley,” said Chris Abbinante, co-managing partner of Sidley’s Chicago office, a leader of the firm’s Corporate practice in Chicago, and a member of the Executive Committee. “He has advised on many of the most prominent transactions in the market, and his arrival further strengthens our Chicago platform and our global M&A and Private Equity capabilities.”

Mr. FitzSimons’s arrival follows the addition of six partners to Sidley’s M&A practice in 2025, including David Grubman, Adam Cromie, George Hunter, and Demetrius Warrick in New York; Enrique Conde in Miami; and Deepak Nanda in Century City.

The firm’s preeminent global M&A and Private Equity practice has more than 650 lawyers who are engaged in the full spectrum of public and private mergers and acquisitions, as well as private equity transactions across a variety of industries, including manufacturing, energy, life sciences, sports, entertainment, healthcare, real estate, consumer products, transportation and logistics, infrastructure, technology, media and telecoms, financial services and insurance, and metals and mining.
