Sidley is representing International Paper Company (IP) as global antirust counsel in the US$ 1.5 billion sale of its Global Cellulose Fiber (GCF) business to American International Partners. This follows a decision IP announced last fall to explore strategic alternatives for its GCF business, aligning with its broader strategy to concentrate on sustainable packaging solutions. The GCF business produces safe, high-quality pulp used in a variety of applications, including towel and tissue products, diapers, feminine hygiene, incontinence items, and other personal care products that support health and wellness. Additionally, its specialty pulp serves as a sustainable raw material for construction materials, paints, coatings, and other industrial uses. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year, subject to regulatory approvals.
The Sidley team is led by Jim Lowe, and includes Jason Semmes, Miriam Carroll Silvestri, Murray Reeve, and Bethany Wise (all Antitrust and Competition).
