Barret V. Armbruster

BARRET ARMBRUSTER is a trial lawyer representing companies and their executives in complex commercial disputes, securities and shareholder litigation, and arbitration. His practice spans a broad range of industries, with particular experience in healthcare and healthcare services. Barret looks for creative, efficient ways to resolve difficult disputes, developing litigation strategies that account for his clients’ business objectives as well as their legal risks.

Barret represents physician practice management organizations and other healthcare services companies in matters involving securities and shareholder claims, commercial contracts, trade secrets, and restrictive covenants. He also represents clients in the insurance, financial services, technology, and consumer products industries.

Barret handles disputes from early case assessment through discovery, motion practice, trial, arbitration, and appeal. He has argued contested motions in federal court, cross-examined witnesses and delivered closing argument in arbitration, and briefed and argued appeals in state and federal courts. His appellate experience includes matters before the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas and Third Court of Appeals in Austin, the Colorado Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Texas, and the Fourth, Fifth, and Ninth Circuits, as well as certiorari-stage briefing in the U.S. Supreme Court.

• An online consumer platform in arbitration, including cross-examining the claimant and presenting closing argument, resulting in a complete defense victory and take-nothing award.
• A life insurance company that obtained summary judgment on the merits in a federal class action.
• A consumer financial services company in commercial litigation and matters involving federal regulatory enforcement.

• Co-chair, Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Trial Skills CLE Committee. The organization helps to organize trial-advocacy programming for young lawyers, including the annual Trial Skills Boot Camp, and works with judges and practicing trial lawyers to develop experiential learning.

• Served on the Sidley team that obtained a favorable federal trial ruling for thousands of Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities in class action litigation challenging institutional segregation.
• Assisted with appeals to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals that resulted in increased disability benefits and retroactive relief for decorated U.S. Army veterans.
• Successfully represented a woman from Burundi in pro bono asylum proceedings, securing a grant of asylum in the United States.
