Biography

KATERINA GLOR focuses her practice on a range of matters within the insurance and financial services industry. She represents insurance and reinsurance companies, insurance-related service companies and other financial service entities in capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions, reinsurance, corporate governance, and financing issues. Katerina also represents companies in litigation and regulatory matters such as enforcement actions and insurance disputes.

Prior to joining Sidley, Katerina served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Virginia M. Kendall of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

She received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

Representative Matters

Representative transactions include:

  • Brookfield Wealth Solutions Ltd., a leading provider of retirement services, wealth protection products and tailored capital solutions, in its reinsurance agreement with leading Japanese insurance company Dai-ichi Frontier Life.
  • Aspida Re in its second APAC reinsurance transaction with a highly rated Japanese life insurance carrier.
  • Zinnia in its strategic acquisition of Policygenius, a digital insurance marketplace.
  • Fortitude Re in multiple reinsurance transactions, including block and flow transactions, with leading Japanese life insurance companies.
  • Fortitude Re in its US$4 billion annuity reinsurance transaction with T&D Holdings subsidiary Taiyo Life, marking Fortitude Re’s inaugural reinsurance deal covering business in Asia.
  • Global Atlantic in the reinsurance from Unum Group of a closed block of individual disability income business backed by US$8.5 billion in assets.
  • LSG Insurance Partners, Inc., a Michigan based employee benefits and property-casualty insurance broker, in its sale to Arthur J. Gallagher & Co.
  • The underwriters in connection with securities offerings by American Financial Group, Inc., Global Atlantic (Fin) Company and Protective Life Corporation.
  • Swiss Reinsurance Company Ltd in its US$250 million Matterhorn Re Ltd. catastrophe bond offering. 
  • Bowline Re Ltd. in its US$250 million catastrophe bond offering.
  • Japanese insurer Zenkyoren on the transfer of earthquake risk through the Nakama Re series of catastrophe bonds.
  • The underwriters in connection with New York Life’s US$23 billion Protective Life Global Funding Program.

Community Involvement

Pro Bono

Katerina focuses her pro bono representation on non-profit organizations and immigration matters. Most recently, she assisted in the formation and organization of non-profit corporations such as HIV League, Inc., Veha’er Inc. and Fair Lawn Eruv Inc. Additionally, Katerina has worked closely with Her Justice, a nonprofit organization aimed at providing legal assistance to low-income women in New York City. She is currently in the process of assisting two clients in the adjustment of their immigration status.
