Biography

NICOLAS GOMEZ OSPINA advises on cross-border private corporate M&A and private equity transactions across a range of sectors, including insurance, financial services, education, and technology, media and telecommunications (TMT).

Prior to joining Sidley, Nicolas was a member of the M&A team at a top-tier Colombian law firm.

Only admitted to practice in Colombia. Not admitted to practice in England and Wales.

Experience

Representative Matters

Recent experience of Nicolas' work include:

  • A global private equity sponsor in the acquisition of a portfolio of schools in Latin America.
  • A Canadian pension fund in the acquisition of a minority stake in a Latin American data center company (acting as local counsel in Colombia).
  • A multinational logistics group in its US$3 billion acquisition of the commerce and life cycle services division of a global technology company (acting as local counsel in Colombia).
  • A regional investment bank in connection with the acquisition of a stake in a Latin American capital management company (acting as local counsel in Colombia).
  • A surety and compliance insurer in a transaction selling its entire equity to a large global insurer.
  • A Spanish water management company in its divestiture of six affiliates to a Spanish infrastructure group.

Community Involvement

Pro Bono

Nicolas maintains an active and robust pro bono practice and is a board member of JUGGO foundation.

His pro bono work has included advising a U.S.-based nonprofit on the acquisition of shares in a Latin American social impact accelerator.
