IRS Issues Proposed Regulations on Base Erosion and Avoidance Tax

On December 13, 2018, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of the Treasury (Treasury) released a 193-page package of proposed regulations providing guidance on the “base erosion and avoidance tax” or “BEAT” provisions in Section 59A of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended (the Code), enacted as part of the 2017 tax reform legislation known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (the Tax Act). The regulations, if finalized, would provide guidance on the following topics:
