President Trump Issues Proclamation Temporarily Suspending Entry of H-1Bs, L-1s and Other Work Visa Categories

On June 22, 2020, citing high unemployment levels caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation suspending entry to the United States of foreign nationals in certain work visa categories, including H-1B and L-1 workers, until the end of the calendar year. The proclamation also directs the Department of Labor, together with the Department of Homeland Security, to consider issuing regulations to ensure that the presence of H-1B workers and those seeking green cards “does not disadvantage United States workers.
