Many nations, including the United States, have an intricate system of laws, regulations, policies, and programs to respond to environmental and public health concerns. But some countries have lax or nearly non-existent environmental controls and enforcement, leaving them vulnerable to illegal discharges into their waterways, the air, and the ground.
INTERPOL’s Pollution Crime Working Group, a global network of national experts, initiates and leads a number of projects to combat the transport, trading, and disposal of hazardous wastes or resources in contravention of national and international laws. In the latest episode of People Places Planet Podcast, partner and global co-leader of the Environmental practice, Justin Savage and managing associate, Nicole Noëlliste, talk to two members of the Working Group: Joseph Poux and Anne Brosnan. Mr. Poux is the Deputy Chief of the Environmental Crimes Section at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he supervises a staff of 36 environmental prosecutors. Anne Brosnan is Chief Prosecutor and Deputy Director of Legal Services with the Environment Agency, England. Watch this special episode below.
