Sidley Advises American Airlines on Sustainable Aviation Fuel Certificate Agreement With Google
Sidley advised American Airlines in connection with its agreement with Google for sustainable aviation fuel certificates (SAFc). American Airlines announced the agreement as the largest publicly announced SAFc agreement between an airline and a single corporate customer to date. The agreement unlocks 35 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel over three years and is expected to result in nearly 300,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions reductions.
Under the agreement, American Airlines will purchase and take delivery of physical fuel for Chicago O’Hare International Airport through existing infrastructure. Google will receive the environmental benefits to help address emissions from employee business travel via the SAFc Registry, which enables transparent and traceable book-and-claim SAFc.
The Sidley team was led by Bart J. Biggers (Transportation) and Sarah Tucker (Energy and Infrastructure), with support from Alexandra K. Calabro (Energy and Infrastructure).
