ROBERT GARRITANO focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, and shareholder activism.
Robert has represented publicly listed companies, private equity sponsors, and investment firms in a wide range of strategic transactions, including mergers, cross border acquisitions, corporate restructures, divestitures, joint ventures, and proxy contest defenses.
Robert’s work has earned him recognition in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America® for Mergers and Acquisitions Law (2026).
Prior to joining Sidley, Robert practiced as a solicitor at a global law firm in Sydney, Australia.

- Colliers (NASDAQ and TSX: CIGI) in its investment in Versus Capital, a U.S. alternative real asset management firm.
- LifePoint Health in its pending acquisition of Kindred Healthcare
- LifePoint Health in its agreement with Medical Properties Trust, Inc. with respect to a pending sale-leaseback of 10 acute care hospitals in six markets for US$700 million
- Acted for Fortress Investment Group LLC on the US$490 million sale of its portfolio entity, CoreVest American Finance Lender LLC, to Redwood Trust, Inc.
- HomeStreet, Inc. in connection with its proxy contest defense against Roaring Blue Lion Capital Management, L.P.
- Two Harbors Investment Corp. in connection with its US$5 billion merger with and acquisition of CYS Investments, Inc.
