
Biography
BRENDAN MCCARTNEY focuses his practice on the representation of buyers and sellers in complex strategic transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, and private equity transactions. He also regularly advises public company clients on corporate governance and disclosure matters.
Brendan received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as a member of the University of Chicago Law Review. Brendan received his B.A. in political science and public policy studies from Duke University.
Prior to joining Sidley, Brendan worked as a Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Fellow at the ACLU of Illinois.

- Roper Technologies in the acquisition by its subsidiary, Aderant, of the legal technology assets from HerculesAI, a pioneer in AI-driven billing compliance and decision intelligence.
- MarcyPen Capital Partners and Brand Velocity Group in Growth Investment in GLD.
- Ocuphire Pharma in its All-Stock Acquisition of Opus Genetics.
- Mastercard in its US$2.65 billion acquisition of global threat intelligence company Recorded Future (pending).
- Thompson Street Capital in Its Investment in National Arbitration & Mediation.
- Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. (NYSE: TDS) in the US$4.4 billion sale of United States Cellular Corporation’s (NYSE: USM) wireless operations and select spectrum assets to T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ: TMUS), including a combination of cash and up to approximately US$2 billion of assumed debt.
- Thompson Street Capital Partners in the sale of its portfolio company palisade to Lumivero.
- Dine Brands in its acquisition of Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.
- Blucora in its US$720 million agreement to sell TaxAct.
