The City Bar Justice Center (CBJC) will honor Emily Mily Wexler, a pro bono counsel in Sidley's Chicago office, with an “Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award” for her exceptional work on behalf of veterans.
The award recognizes Emily’s leadership and dedication in providing pro bono legal assistance to veterans seeking VA and military disability benefits and help with discharge issues. Emily coordinates Sidley’s Veterans Advocacy Project, partnering with legal services providers to offer pro bono representation to veterans in need. She also conducts pro bono trainings and clinics with CBJC, educating lawyers and law students on veterans law and how to effectively advocate for veterans’ rights. Emily is a member of the National Organization of Veterans Advocates and the Association of Pro Bono Counsel.
CBJC is the pro bono affiliate of the New York City Bar Association, providing free legal services to low-income New Yorkers on a range of civil matters. CBJC will present Emily with the award at its annual gala on October 22, 2024, which celebrates the impact of pro bono lawyers in advancing access to justice.
