Sidley Wins “Restructuring Deal of the Year” Award at IFR Asia Awards

International Financing Review has awarded Sidley with the “Restructuring Deal of the Year” award at the IFR Asia Awards 2025 for Kaisa Group Holdings’ US$12.3 billion restructuring. The IFR Awards are the pre-eminent forum for recognizing achievement and success in global capital markets and finance.

Sidley acted as the international legal adviser to Kaisa Group Holdings Ltd. (HKEX: 1638, Kaisa), a leading Chinese real estate developer, in its restructuring of approximately US$12.3 billion in offshore debt. The landmark restructuring was achieved through an innovative and highly complex dual scheme structure for both Kaisa and Rui Jing Investment Company Ltd. (Rui Jing), Kaisa’s subsidiary, across three jurisdictions. This includes the Kaisa Hong Kong Scheme, the Kaisa Cayman Scheme, the Rui Jing Hong Kong Scheme, and the Rui Jing BVI Scheme, which were all sanctioned as of April 7, 2025.

In 2025 alone, Sidley’s restructuring practice in the region successfully completed restructurings with the combined value of over US$40 billion.
