Sidley Advises RoundShield Partners on the Final Close of Its Fifth European Special Opportunities Fund
September 25, 2024
Sidley has advised London-based private investment firm RoundShield Partners LLP (RoundShield) on the successful raising of its fifth European special opportunities fund (Fund V), which has now held a final closing on total commitments of over US$1 billion, nearly US$150 million above its fundraising target.
Fund V is the largest fund in RoundShield’s 11-year history and has attracted commitments from a diversified mix of leading public and private pension funds, endowments and foundations, insurance companies, and large family offices globally.
RoundShield, a significant Sidley client, is a private investment firm focused on European asset-backed credit opportunities and providing private capital solutions across real estate, infrastructure, and other hard and financial assets. RoundShield is deploying Fund V in asset-backed private credit investments with a primary focus on real asset sectors in Western Europe, such as hospitality, student housing, residential, social infrastructure, renewable energy, and other operating-related real estate.
The Fund is Article 8 under the EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosures Regulation, promoting environmental or social characteristics and integrating sustainability risks.
Sidley also represented RoundShield on the fundraising of its predecessor Fund IV, which had commitments of US$880 million, in 2020.
The Sidley team was led by investment funds partner Oren Gertner with principal support from senior managing associate Jessica Lowe, managing associate Matt Keen, associate Joanne Louis, and trainee associate Helena Anderson; working alongside funds regulatory partner Leonard Ng, senior managing associate Arash Dashtgard, and managing associate Noel Li; real estate private equity and finance partner Steven C. Koppel; UK tax partner Oliver Currall and managing associate Avi Kaye; and U.S. tax partner Joseph M. Paral.
