Sidley Advises Coinbase Capital Markets on the Launch of Its Stock Trading Capability for U.S. Coinbase Users

December 19, 2025

Sidley advised Coinbase Capital Markets Corp. on the launch of its stock trading capability for U.S. Coinbase users, including FINRA regulatory considerations and compliance measures. Announced December 17, 2026, this expansion of the Coinbase platform enables its customers to buy, sell, and manage leading stocks and ETFs alongside their crypto portfolios – with USD or USDC – all within the Coinbase app.

This integration underlies Coinbase’s Everything Exchange mission, its pursuit of simplified portfolio management, and its plans to move financial products on-chain. The platform also offers the ability to trade stocks without the constraints of traditional market hours.

Sidley lawyers had previously represented Coinbase in its acquisitions of Keystone Capital Corp., now Coinbase Capital Markets Corp., through which the securities are being offered, under the oversight of the SEC and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).

The Sidley team was led by Andrew J. Sioson and Lilya Tessler (Blockchain) and included partners Charles A. Sommers, Paul Tyrrell (Securities Enforcement and Regulatory); partner Andrew Shoyer (Global Arbitration, Trade and Advocacy); and counsel Sean A. Smith and associate Jordyn R. Singer (Banking, Payments and Fintech).
