Biography
JON MUENZ is an experienced commercial litigator, with particular experience in bankruptcy, insolvency, and other distressed situations. Jon has represented debtors, official committees, secured and unsecured creditors, distressed investors, and other parties in litigated matters arising out of numerous high profile restructurings. Jon also has substantial experience in state and federal courts and various arbitral forums litigating disputes concerning contractual breaches, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and class and derivative actions. Jon previously served as in-house litigation counsel for a Fortune 100 company.
Jon serves on the editorial board of the Enhanced Scrutiny blog, where the Sidley team provides timely updates and thoughtful analysis on M&A and corporate governance matters from the Delaware courts and, on occasion, from other jurisdictions.

- Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc., a provider of hospital operations and other physician services across several states, in one of 2025’s largest Chapter 11 cases, filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.
- BowFlex, Inc., a manufacturer of fitness equipment, in its Chapter 11 cases in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.
- Eiger Biopharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company that develops treatments for rare metabolic diseases, in its Chapter 11 cases in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.
- Anthelion Capital Holdings, as primary secured creditor, in the Chapter 11 proceedings of Proterra, Inc., an electric bus and commercial vehicle power train manufacturer, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

Community Involvement
Pro Bono
Jon maintains an active pro bono practice and has successfully represented clients in contested divorce and asylum proceedings. In connection with his advocacy on behalf of a mother of four children from Chad, he was one of the recipients of the 2011 Commitment to Justice Award for Outstanding Legal Team, presented by inMotion (now known as Her Justice), a leading non-profit legal services provider that helps low-income women in New York. Jon has co-authored a practice guide on the use of electronic discovery, specifically focused on social media, in domestic violence litigation.
