SHAMBHAVI PANDEY advises on EU Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) law and policy, public international law, and international trade law, with a particular focus on the intersection of trade and environmental regulation.
Shambhavi’s experience in relation to ESG law and policy includes:
- Advising companies on ESG obligations, including disclosures, due diligence, and public environmental communications, under EU and international law;
- Advising sovereign states and trade associations on international climate change obligations and on the WTO consistency of climate-related laws and regulations;
- Advising states on trade agreement negotiations, including on sustainability and clean economy provisions;
- Advising companies on the European Union Green Deal and the EU circular economy package; and
- Delivering teaching sessions on climate litigation at the World Trade Institute of the University of Bern.
In addition, Shambhavi advises on WTO law, having worked with both developed and developing countries in dispute settlement proceedings. She was also part of Sidley teams that advised a sovereign state on the advisory proceedings on climate change before the International Court of Justice, and an international organization on related proceedings before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.
Before joining Sidley, Shambhavi worked at a diplomatic mission to the WTO and at a leading trade and investment law think tank, where she advised on and represented developing country interests in multilateral trade law and policy.
Shambhavi received her L.L.M. in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) from the Geneva Graduate Institute and the University of Geneva. She has participated and received distinctions in the Vis East Young International Mediation Competition, Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court, and the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on WTO law.
