Jaime R. Simon

JAIME SIMON represents clients in their most important trial and litigation matters. She has a diverse range of experience, litigating product liability, mass tort, and toxic tort actions, False Claims Act/qui tam matters, criminal cases, insurance class actions, and financial services disputes. She has also conducted multiple internal and regulatory investigations across a variety of industries.

In 2018, Jaime completed a secondment with the Office of the Cook County State’s Attorney. In this role, she conducted bench and jury trials, argued evidentiary motions, and litigated summary suspension hearings. 

Prior to joining Sidley, Jaime worked at another large Chicago firm.

• Represented herbicide manufacturer Monsanto in multiple products liability trials in state courts across the country. Jaime developed and advised on trial strategy, directed the efforts of Sidley’s trial team, coordinated with co-counsel, argued pretrial motions and prepared witness exams. Jaime’s recent trial teams won complete defense victories in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and in Cook County, Illinois as well as an a mid-trial dismissal of claims in California state court.
• Represented a contract sterilizer of medical devices in toxic tort litigation in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Plaintiffs claimed that exposure to a chemical used by the sterilizer led them to develop cancer and other injuries. Jaime was a key member of the team that received a full defense victory at trial.
• Represented individuals and companies in criminal grand jury investigations.
• Secured dismissal of a putative class action against an insurer alleging violations of a state consumer protection act. The dismissal was affirmed by the Ninth Circuit.
• Litigated numerous qui tam and consumer suits brought under the False Claims Act, consumer fraud, and related statutes in Illinois and across the country. These engagements included defending multi-million-dollar qui tam claims against a financial services firm related to its municipal bond underwriting practices, where Jaime helped secure dismissals of these claims in multiple state courts.
• Secured the reversal of an injunction issued in a heavily contested collections matter in Illinois state court.
• Represented a telecommunications client in a patent dispute in the District of Delaware, which included deposing former executives, drafting dispositive motions, and preparing fact and expert witnesses for trial.
• Worked with multiple large insurance clients on internal reviews and regulatory investigations relating to information security, sales practices, and compliance issues. The scope of these representations included multiple witness interviews and preparing company witnesses for investigatory interviews with state and federal regulators.

Jaime and her colleagues received the Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service from the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for their work on behalf of an individual claiming deliberate indifference to medical needs under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. Jaime also assists clients with expungement and sealing of criminal records.

Prior to joining Sidley, Jaime represented defendants in criminal matters in state and federal court and helped an indigent criminal defendant seek federal post-conviction relief in an appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Jaime also assisted multiple clients with asylum proceedings.
