Nathaniel Love Named Chair of Chicago Pro Bono Committee

June 9, 2026

Nathaniel (Nat) Love, a partner in Sidley’s IP Litigation practice, has been named the Chicago chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Having maintained an active pro bono practice during his 16 years at the firm, Nat has dedicated more than 100 hours annually to matters including death penalty litigation, immigration and asylum, veterans’ advocacy, and civil rights.

“All of our pro bono work presents an opportunity to change lives, and once you’ve experienced it, you’ll want to do it again,” he said.

According to Nat, pro bono work can serve as a valuable opportunity for professional development. He noted that associates gain early in-court experience that may be difficult to obtain on billable matters. “I got to do things in pro bono cases that I could turn around and use to build my career. Even small cases present opportunities to develop skills and demonstrate that growth to senior lawyers in ways that will have a concrete impact on your career.”

Participating in clinics, such as those that Sidley hosts to help asylees and refugees navigate complex legal processes, require a limited time commitment yet can have significant, impactful results, he said. “As Sidley lawyers, we are positioned to easily solve problems that our clients can’t solve themselves.” “The difference it makes in their lives is immeasurable. You can spend a couple of hours to make it possible for them to live, work, and raise their families here.”

Nat was named to The Best Lawyers in America® for Litigation – Intellectual Property (2026) and has consistently been recognized by IAM Patent 1000, most recently in its 2025 edition (2023–2025).

Since Sidley’s founding in 1866, the firm has cultivated a tradition of, and commitment to, pro bono service. Sidley lawyers and business professionals devoted more than 160,000 hours last year to serving those most in need.
