SHASHWAT TEWARY advises on diverse debt and equity capital markets transactions across India and southeast Asia, ranging from IPOs and follow-on equity offerings, stand-alone bonds, MTN programmes, CD/CP programmes, and Islamic finance transactions. He has represented clients in a broad range of industries, such as manufacturing, technology, aviation, real estate, infrastructure, and financial institutions, and has also advised sovereigns and state owned entities.
Shashwat has advised on a number of ‘firsts’: first-ever Indian REIT IPO (2019); first-ever Indian REIT Institutional Placement (2020); first-ever Indian InvIT IPO (2017); first-ever Indonesian sustainability-linked bond (2021); and first-ever sovereign green Sukuk issuance (Republic of Indonesia) (2018). The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2023 acknowledges that Shashwat has “impressive experience in capital markets transactions across APAC, including India, Indonesia and Malaysia.”
Shashwat trained and qualified as a solicitor at a magic circle law firm in London. During his training period, he was seconded as judicial assistant to Lord Justice Lawrence Collins (then at the England & Wales Court of Appeal). Post qualification in 2009, Shashwat’s practice has focused on capital markets transactions in APAC, with a special interest in India. His in-house experience includes a secondment to a leading investment bank, working with the DCM transaction management group.
