SHASHWAT TEWARY advises on diverse debt and equity capital markets transactions across India and southeast Asia, ranging from IPOs and follow-on equity offerings, stand-alone bonds, MTN programmes, CD/CP programmes, and Islamic finance transactions. He has represented clients in a broad range of industries, such as manufacturing, technology, aviation, real estate, infrastructure, and financial institutions, and has also advised sovereigns and state owned entities.
Shashwat has advised on a number of ‘firsts’: first-ever Indian REIT IPO (2019); first-ever Indian REIT Institutional Placement (2020); first-ever Indian InvIT IPO (2017); first-ever Indonesian sustainability-linked bond (2021); and first-ever sovereign green Sukuk issuance (Republic of Indonesia) (2018).
Shashwat trained and qualified as a solicitor at a magic circle law firm in London. During his training period, he was seconded as judicial assistant to Lord Justice Lawrence Collins (then at the England & Wales Court of Appeal). Post qualification in 2009, Shashwat’s practice has focused on capital markets transactions in APAC, with a special interest in India. His in-house experience includes a secondment to a leading investment bank, working with the DCM transaction management group.
