Charmaine Yap

Charmaine’s representative experience includes:

• Advised a Singapore listed company on internal investigations and investigations by the Singapore Corrupt Practices Investigations Bureau and Attorney General’s Chambers into allegations of corruption involving exposure to liability across at least three jurisdictions.
• Advised an international private equity fund advisor on allegations of kickbacks relating to investments in a Southeast Asian country and potentially involving exposure to liability across at least three South-East Asian jurisdictions.
• Advised a major transport operator on internal investigations into workplace complaints.
• Acted for a significant player in the Malaysian oil and gas industry an SIAC Emergency Arbitration application for a cross-border dispute valued at over US$40 million. Successfully obtained emergency orders preventing the respondent from terminating a highly lucrative licensing agreement for novel technology in the oil and gas industry.
• Acted in judicial management proceedings for a Singapore holding company of a corporate group including an Indian listed company on the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd and the Bombay Stock Exchange. The matter involved a US$50 million loan facility.

Charmaine is also an active advocate for vulnerable and underrepresented groups including low-wage migrant workers and low-income families, and for environmental and sustainability issues. Charmaine led the Good Samaritan Food Donation Legislation Review Committee which introduced a landmark Good Samaritan Food Donation Law in Singapore. She frequently conducts training on and speaks at conferences on access to justice, low-wage migrant workers, and ESG-related topics.
