Since March 13, 2020, the United States has been operating under a State of Emergency declared by President Donald Trump in response to the spread of COVID-19. On March 27, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President. The economic stimulus package in the CARES Act (as amended by the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act on April 24) provides various benefits for businesses and certain nonprofits, as more fully described in the tables below. The following tables summarize the sections and provisions likely to be of importance to corporations and sponsors and their portfolio companies.
