Sidley Partner David Monteiro To Speak on "Payments of the Future: Law, Innovation, and Access in a Digital Economy" Panel
Friday, January 30, 2026
Sidley partner David Monteiro will speak on the "Payments of the Future: Law, Innovation, and Access in a Digital Economy" panel, co-hosted by SMU Science & Technology Law Review and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. The symposium will bring together leading scholars, practitioners, and industry experts to explore emerging topics and trends in the digital payments landscape.
The panel will examine whether digital payment technologies can meaningfully expand financial access for underserved populations or risk exacerbating existing disparities. The discussion will focus on infrastructure and regulatory barriers that may exclude certain communities, the role of alternative payment systems in serving unbanked and underbanked populations, concerns around discriminatory algorithmic decision-making, the importance of maintaining cash alternatives, and policy considerations to promote equitable access to digital financial services.
