States are beginning to follow IRS relief for tax filing deadlines, payment dates, interest and penalty relief for state income taxes, but relief measures vary by state. Some states, at least initially, provided that relief would be granted on a case by case basis, but that is evolving. State specific relief is also being provided in some states for sales and other non-income taxes. That relief also varies by state and, in some instances, is targeted to certain small businesses. Illinois, for example, has provided sales tax relief to qualifying restaurants and bars.
We are continuing to monitor major states for additional developments. Below are links to websites for departments of revenue of select states that you can check for current information. Each website has its current COVID-19 information featured prominently.
