The Future of Ecolabeling for Products and Packaging Sold Into California: New Definitions Coming Soon

October 14, 2021
On October 5, 2021, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed several bills concerning environmental advertising and marketing claims, recycling, and the use of certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) substances in products.

Product manufacturers selling products and packaging in California will likely have to start complying with these new labeling requirements after January 2024 and January 2026 regulations and criteria are developed by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).
