Sidley Represents Matthews International in Successful Proxy Contest Against Barington Capital

Sidley represented Matthews International Corporation (NASDAQ: MATW) in its successful proxy contest against activist hedge fund Barington Capital Group. Even though all proxy advisory firms recommended for Barington’s candidates, all of the client’s director nominees were elected to the board by the shareholders at the 2025 annual general meeting.
Sidley’s team was led by David Grubman, co-leader of the firm’s Global M&A practice, and Kai Liekefett, co-leader of the firm’s Shareholder Activism and Corporate Defense practice, and included Eric Goodwin, Amy Jang, and Jinrey Chen.
