Darren Chak

DARREN CHAK advises on a wide range of cross-border debt finance transactions, with clients that include private equity sponsors, corporations, credit funds and investment banks. Darren has experience in acquisition financing, syndicated lending, private credit financing, real estate financing and general banking.

Before joining Sidley, Darren was part of the banking and finance practice at an international law firm in Singapore. He has also been seconded to the Global Banking team of Standard Chartered Bank.

Recent examples of Darren’s work include advising:

• A syndicate of lenders in a US$2.3 billion secured term loan to an international real estate group for the acquisition of a real estate company in the PRC, with over 50 portfolio companies providing transaction security.
• A syndicate of lenders in a £1.108 billion secured term loan granted for the construction and development of a real estate project in central London.
• A mandated lead arranger in its financing of a SG$12 billion loan, the largest debt financing in Singapore to date.
• An international diamond manufacturer based in Belgium, on their secured term loan from a Luxembourg-based private credit fund.
• A syndicate of over 20 banks on a US$1.75 billion loan for the refinancing of existing facilities granted to an Indian conglomerate, with transaction security spanning over seven jurisdictions.
• A private credit fund in their secured term loan granted to a borrower, controlled by a regional private equity sponsor, for the acquisition of shares in a PRC electronics company.
• The mandated lead arrangers on a SG$950 million green loan financing to a portfolio company of Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund.
• A mandated lead arranger in its financing of a US$900 million syndicated sustainability-linked financing to a subsidiary of a leading global utility-backed seaborne energy trader specialising in LNG, coal and freight.
• A sponsor on their secured loan facilities for the acquisition of several luxury hotels in Indonesia and Vietnam.
