VICTOR PIANOWSKI works on a broad range of contentious matters covering complex commercial litigation, dispute resolution, international arbitration, and contentious regulatory matters.
Victor trained and qualified as a solicitor in Sidley’s London office, where he also gained experience in the firm’s Restructuring and Capital Markets practices.
Experience
Representative Matters
Victor’s recent experience includes advising:
- One of the world’s leading mineral fertilizer producers in an ICC arbitration concerning a billion dollar dispute relating to the termination of a production facility in Eastern Europe.
- Darty Holdings SAS as the successful defendant to a £110 million unlawful preference claim brought by the liquidator of CGL Realisations Limited (formerly Comet Group Ltd) in the English High Court and the Court of Appeal (see Darty Holdings SAS v. Geoffrey Carton-Kelly (as additional liquidator of CGL Realisations Limited), [2023] EWCA Civ 1135). The claim is believed to be the largest preference claim by value ever considered by the English Courts.
- Two senior employees at a multinational investment bank in an application to the English Courts for the taking of evidence in support of proceedings instituted in Denmark worth €103.7 million involving allegations of fraud and financial misconduct.
- A syndicate of institutional investors defending claims for breach of contract and fraud in the English High Court arising out of their disposal of a pharmaceutical company.
- A Chinese video surveillance company on legal and regulatory issues.
- Atento in its successful UK restructuring plans.
- Bilkul Football in its acquisition of West Bromwich Albion Football Club.
Community Involvement
Pro Bono
- Acted for a father in his child arrangements order application.
- Supervised two QMUL law students in advising a majority shareholder of a medical start-up.
- Represented an individual in his Personal Independence Payment appeal, securing him approximately £6,100 in backdated benefits, a standard award for the daily living component, and the enhanced rate for the mobility component for the next four years.
