ABBY SCHEPER focuses her practice on litigating complex commercial cases in federal court, and representing clients through internal investigations and government enforcement actions.
Prior to joining Sidley, Abby clerked for Judge Thomas D. Schroeder of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina from 2023–2024.
Abby earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif. While in law school, Abby served on the Membership Selection Committee and editorial board of the Virginia Law Review and as both the Director of Operations and President of the Extramural Moot Court team.
Abby was also a member of the Decarceration and Community Reentry Clinic, where she represented clients in civil rights restoration matters, drafting petitions and arguing before the Virginia state courts on their behalf. She also served as a liaison for clients with prior convictions who were navigating immigration processes, participated in record-sealing efforts, and conducted reentry legal needs assessments with currently and formerly incarcerated individuals.
Abby’s range of experience now extends beyond her formal clinic participation to include current pro bono matters handled as appointed counsel in the D.C. Court of Appeals to individuals with recent criminal convictions.
Prior to law school, Abby graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina State University with a B.A. in philosophy. Abby attended N.C. State as a member of the Park Scholarships program, receiving a four-year full scholarship awarded on the basis of outstanding demonstrated and potential scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Abby also earned recognition as a member of the Dean’s list and Phi Beta Kappa.
