Sidley Advises Galvanize on US$70 Million Project Financing for AMP's AI-Powered Waste Infrastructure

October 8, 2026

Sidley advised Galvanize as lead financier in US$70 million of project debt financing for AMP, an AI-powered waste and recycling company, to fund construction of a new sortation facility and organics processing system in Portsmouth, Virginia.

The financing supports AMP's 20-year partnership with the Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA), a regional system designed to process more than 500,000 tons of municipal solid waste annually and divert at least half from landfill. The transaction structures AMP's operating technology — including AI-powered cameras, robotics, and pneumatic sorting — as financeable infrastructure rather than early-stage technology risk, paired with long-term contracted municipal demand. A companion facility will convert recovered organics into biochar, generating carbon-removal credits under AMP's agreement with Google to remove 200,000 metric tonnes of CO2e by 2030.

The Sidley team was led by Tara Higgins, Mario Samos, and Enrrique Santa Cruz (Energy and Infrastructure). Additional support was provided by Sarah Tucker, Nick Drake, and Charles Beauregard (Energy and Infrastructure); Angela Richards and Alvin Wang (Tax); Heather Palmer (Environmental); Daniel Rawner and Ryan Sanguigni (M&A and Private Equity); Michael Cumming (Banking, Payments and Fintech); E. Kyle Barnett and Lauren Grau (Technology and Life Sciences Transactions); and Eric Winwood (Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation).
